Load transfer optimizer for high-voltage distribution network enabling high penetration of wind energy

2017
The increasing load has caused congestion risk of high-voltage distribution network (HVDN) due to the limited capacity density in majority of cities. The integration of urban wind farm might even deteriorate the situation because of undesired placement. Bridging the gap between insufficient planning and cost-effective operation to enable secure and clean urban power system, therefore, needs to be carefully addressed. A novel load transfer model which adequately utilizes reconfigurable ability of HVDN to facilitate optimally balanced operation via network actions is proposed in this paper. The methodology can provide a resilient operation scheme for HVDN operators to realize the reduction of load and wind power curtailment in the presence of uncertainty. A realistic case study is used to verify the effectiveness and applicability of the proposed method.
