PURPOSE: A novel transition metal compound based on a cyclopenta[b]fluorenyl group is provided to ensure excellent thermal stability of a catalyst and to maintain high catalytic activity. CONSTITUTION: A novel transition metal compound based on a cyclopenta[b]fluorenyl group is denoted by chemical formula 1. The transition metal compound is denoted by chemical formula 2 or 3. A transition metal catalyst composition for preparing ethylene homopolymer or copolymer of ethylene and alpha-olefin contains the transition metal compound and a crude catalyst of aluminum compounds, boron compounds, or a mixture thereof.
