Sero-proteotion Against Intracerebral Salmonella typhosa Infection in Chicks.∗

1965
SummaryYoung chicks were protected against intracerebral infection with S. typhosa by the prior intramuscular injection of chicken antiserum containing anti-Vi and anti-O agglutinins. Passive immunity was manifested by prevention of death and by sterilization of the tissues. To achieve this end it was necessary to administer the anti-serum in quantity and at a time sufficiently in advance of the challenge such as to ensure an adequate concentration of antibody at the intracranial site when the microorganisms were introduced.
