TRANSITION FROM TEACHING VB6 TO VB .NET

2004
The upgrade of Microsoft Visual Basic from version 6 (VB6) to Visual Basic .Net (VB .Net) environment represents a substantial change in the ways that programs are structured. Furthermore, additional features have been added and others deleted as a result of this upgrade. For faculty transitioning from teaching VB6 to VB .Net, it will be beneficial to have knowledge of the changes that have taken place between the two versions of the software and how it affects their course contents. This paper is to help with this transition from teaching programming courses using VB6 to the same ones teaching VB .Net. It will attempt to explain the changes that have occurred between the two versions of VB as they pertain to the topics taught in a typical first level-programming course that teaches the Visual Basic Programming Language.
