Radiological Aspects of Head and Spinal Trauma

1990
Head injury is very common; most injuries are mild but severe head injury is a leading cause of death and disability in young men between the ages of 15 and 25. As many as 50% of severely head-injured patients die and many of the survivors have per manent neurological sequelae. It is estimated that one in a thousand of the population is disabled, to some extent, as a result of head injury. Accident and emergency departments, neurosurgeons, orthopaedic and general surgeons are primarily involved in the acute care of these patients but many will seek neurological advice at a later date due to per sistent or new symptoms.
