Current Status of LCD-TV Development in Japan

Abstract The portabIe and/or pocketable LCD-TVs developed in Japan up to the present are reviewed. They are classified into the multiplex drive LCD-TV and active matrix drive LCD-TV, and the latter is classified into DS mode and GH mode. In this paper, the characteristics and performances of each LCD panel and its TV sets are described in detail, with emphasis placed on the GH mode LCD-TV developed by us. Finally, capability and the development of the LCD-TV in a future information system are discussed.
