Internet Accessibility for People with Aphasia

2004
Researchers worked intensively with a group of people with aphasia to develop a picture of barriers and facilitators to web access for people with communication disabilities. It was found that people with aphasia encounter similar problems using the Web as those with no language impairment. However, the impact of these problems is more pronounced for this group. In addition, web access for people with aphasia was found to be mediated by a range of physical, cognitive and social barriers that extend far beyond the individual's language impairments. A prototype web site incorporating the findings is being evaluated.
