Landscape assessment method at a European level; a case study of polder landscapes

1999
International and national policies relating to landscape values rely on an adequate assessment method. The SWOT method (strength, weakness, opportunities and threats) proposed here combines geographical data, valuation procedures, insight into trendsin land use, and identification of threats and opportunities. Recommendations are made for policy making. The method has been tested on polder landscapes and proved to be satisfactory. Improvements are suggested for follow-up research and applications.
