Pediatric Head and Neck Malignancies

2019
Head and neck malignancies account for approximately 5% of all pediatric tumors. Although relatively rare, pediatric head and neck malignancies are challenging from a treatment-planning standpoint given proximity to critical structures and developing normal tissue. This chapter provides practical contouring guidelines for common pediatric head and neck tumors including malignant tumors such as rhabdomyosarcoma, Ewing sarcoma, salivary gland tumors, and the benign, but locally aggressive, nasopharyngeal angiofibroma. Rhabdomyosarcoma and Ewing sarcoma are covered more broadly in Chaps. 8 and 9.
