Analysis on HIV testing behavior and associated factors among men who have sex with men from different venues

Objective To describe HIV testing behavior and associated factors among men who have sex with men from different venues.Methods A cross-sectional survey was conducted by MSM volunteers and investigators in Zhengzhou and Chengdu cities from July to September,2012.Eligible MSM were recruited from bars,parks,and public bathrooms frequented by MSM.Results A total of 554 MSM were included in the survey.Three hundred and seventy seven(68.1%) reported having HIV testing before,and 331(59.7%) reported having HIV test in the past year.According to univariate and multivariate logistics regression analysis,having friends with HIV testing history,being aware of HIV prevalence in local city,and having received HIV intervention services in the past year were associated with HIV test uptaking.Conclusions HIV testing rate among MSM in gay venues has reached a certain level in the two cities.Efforts should be made to mobilize MSM community to play their full role in HIV testing service and latest local HIV prevalence in different areas should also be included in HIV testing campaign to further increase HIV testing rate among MSM from different venues.
