CHAPTER 1 – Introduction: Problems and Procedures of Comparative Gametology and Syngamy*

1967
Publisher Summary The purpose of this chapter is to state some of the basic and practical problems of reproductive physiology, to indicate the directions from which contributions toward their solution have been coming, and to note the further problems that emerge from continued investigation. The relation of these studies to human welfare is also to be considered here, although the surveys that are presented in the succeeding chapters are intended primarily as studies in basic biology apart from their possible utility in these directions.
