Cloning of the Dog Na+/K+-ATPase α1-Subunit

Many of the kinetic, proteolytic and structural studies on the Na+/K+-ATPase have been conducted on the enzyme isolated from the dog kidney. While the cDNA for the dog βlsubunit is available (1), the cDNA coding for the a-subunit has not been isolated. The availability of the dog a-subunit cDNA will make it possible to compare previous studies with results obtained from the expression of the dog kidney subunit. The purpose of this study was to isolate the cDNA coding for the a-subunit from the dog kidney.
