Silver nanoparticles in poultry health: Applications and toxicokinetic effects

Abstract Poultry industry is one of major and important industry to support the food requirement of the growing human generation. It has been observed that to maintain the healthy flocks, there are various parameters that need to be improved. One of them is the flocks feed. In the recent years, silver nanoparticles have gained much more popularity over other types of nanoparticles. This is due to their superior performance, thereby contributing to the decreased food conversion ratio. This makes it a cost-effective feed source to for the sustainable growth in poultry. Moreover, the harmful effects associated with the silver nanoparticles as feed in poultry are unable to suppress its useful advantages. The purpose of addressing this chapter is to analyze the benefits associated with silver nanoparticles as feed in poultry, keeping in mind the harmful effects arising from it. This chapter is assigned in two parts. The first part is devoted to the application of the silver nanoparticles in poultry, while the second part is focused on the toxokinetic studies of silver nanoparticles. The chapter discusses about the application of silver nanoparticles in poultry, their distribution, and their toxicity mechanisms.
