THE POTENTIAL IMPACTS OF CLIMATE CHANGE ON TRANSPORTATION: WORKSHOP SUMMARY

2003
This report gives a brief background on climate change research as it relates to transportation, and provides an overview of the background papers and activities and summarizes the findings and recommendations of the Potential Impacts of Climate Change on Transportation Research Workshop which was held at the Brookings Institution in Washington, D.C. on October 1-2, 2002. Workshop participants strongly agreed that there is significant need for research to build understanding about the connections between climate change and transportation. They found that the results of further research, if appropriately focused, would help transportation planners and managers better prepare for and manage the impacts of climate change on the transportation system. In addition, they found that greater attention should be given to making current research findings available to inform transportation decision makers.
