Diffuse nodular hyperplasia of jejunum due to Eimeria infection in a kid-Case report

2012
A four month old non-descript kid with anorexia and anaemia was presented for necropsy. Clinical coccidiosis was confirmed on post mortem examination of kid that had died after 56 days of illness. Detailed necropsy of the dead kid revealed dehydrated and pale carcass and raised white nodules throughout the mucosa of the jejunum. Direct smear examination of crushed nodule and intestinal content revealed numerous oocysts, schizonts and gamonts. Oocysts were morphologically identical to Eimeria arloingi. Histopathological examination of nodules revealed severe hyperplasia of the epithelial cells and villi forming papillary folds of epithelial cells and infiltration of mononuclear cells and contained different stages of Eimeria species.
