THE MEAN NUMBER OF NEUTRONS EMITTED IN TERNARY FISSION BY U$sup 23$$sup 5$

The mean number of neutrons nu emitted in intermediate U/sup 235/ ternary fission was measured. The mean value of nu at E> 22 Mev was 1.76 plus or minus 0.13, in good agreement with published data. The data indicate that the fragment excitation energy does not depend on the energy of longrange alpha particles. (R.V.J.)
