Observation, Theory, and Numerical Modeling: Atmospheric Teleconnections Leading to Generalized Frosts over Southeast South America

2019
This work presents an overview of Rossby wave propagation theory which comprises the generation mechanisms from the tropical source and the transformation of the localized perturbation to a remote field (teleconnection) response. A discussion about the mechanisms of vorticity conservation is presented, including an analysis of the regional factors contributing to generalized frosts. The role of Rossby waves in the cold air advection during the generalized frost events and the role of basic state of atmospheric motion are also discussed.
