Implementation of Adaptive Controllers Using Digital Signal Processor Chips

1991
Abstract The tuning of a classical servo system is often problematical, owing to the presence of system non-linearities, parameter variations and unmeasured disturbances. Adaptive control schemes are of growing interest since the system is self-tuned such that some predefined performance requirement is met, regardless of variations in system parameters. With the recent availability of the powerful intensive-computation based digital signal processor (DSP) chips, adaptive controllers become viable in practice. This paper presents the position control of a DC motor using adaptive-PID and adaptive one-step-ahead control schemes. The experimental results demostrate that the responses of DC motor with adaptive position controllers can adapt to altered process behavior and shows a satisfactory, well damped control performance.
