Technologies against Looting and Vandalism

2000
Remote surveillance using electronic devices to protect cultural resources in their natural setting has been going on since 1983. Dramatic improvements in durability, accuracy in detecting unwanted intrusions, versatility, cost, and success in protecting our resources have occurred since that time. Critical points discussed in this chapter include understanding how sophisticated surveillance systems operate, their advantages and limitations, as well as how to evaluate the protection potential of a system, given the situation and nature of the cultural resources.
