Compact broadband coupled line antenna for GSM850/900

In this paper, we present a broadband printed antenna using coupled lines as mechanism to improve bandwidth. Simulation and measurement results show good agreement validating our design. In addition, an equivalent circuit model is developed for the proposed coupled line antenna. Radiation patterns are linearly polarized and omni-directional at center frequency, 900MHz. The proposed antenna can be used in the GSM850 and GSM900 mobile phone systems, and the coupled line antenna idea can be extended to other broadband antenna design.
