Self-Accelerated Turbidity Current Prediction Based Upon Dynamic Turbulence Models

1989
The structure of a self-accelerated turbidity current appears to be significantly better predicted by a dynamic Reynolds stress turbulence model than by one- and two- equation models. The study discussed indicates that dynamic stress modelling gives better predictions. The turbulence and sediment flux are finite over the mean velocity maximum even with buoyancy effects in the turbulence model. The predictions resemble experimental data on neutrally buoyant wall jets and experimental data on turbidity currents.
