Code Analysis as an Enabler for SW Quality Improvement: The SELEX ES SW Engineering Experience

FINMECCANICA is a world leader in the production of complex systems, embedded and general purpose, in several domains More than 50% of FINMECCANICA software solutions come from SELEX ESSELEX ES research and development effort to improve delivered software quality is constantly increasing, trying to stay on the cutting edge of methodologies and techniques for improving customers satisfaction, as well as for gaining competitive advantages over competitors worldwide. This paper shortly reports SELEX ES experience and preliminary results, with particular emphasis on i) the use of static analysis as a direct intrinsic quality maker, ii) the definition of ad hoc KPIs and quality targets and iii) the way static analysis results have been exploiting to gain side indications and metrics for pre release software defects prevention and prediction.
