A control system and method for an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system of an engine includes a first stator, which detects a fresh air mass flow, a second stator, which detects a charge air flow, the charge air flow in the fresh-air mass flow and an EGR exhaust gas stream based and generates a calculation module that determines a difference between the fresh air mass flow and charge air flow and an EGR valve control signal on the basis of the difference.
