Mortality pattern in Sangamneri strain of Deccani sheep in an organised farm

The present study was carried out to know the mortality pattern of Sangamneri Strain of Deccani Sheep in an organised farm. The overall annual mortality during a period of 9 years ranged from 3.03 to 8.16 per cent. The mortality in lambs accounted for 4.92 per cent while in adult age it was 5.60 per cent. Among the total dealths, 38.02 per cent males and 61.98 per cent females were recorded. The highest mortality was recorded in summer (41.71%) followed by winter (37.52%) and monsoon (20.77%) Respiratory and Alimentary disorders were the dominant causes of mortality in all seasons, accounting for 28.81 and 21.27 per cent of the deaths respectively. The mortality due to helminthic infection was found more in monsoon (4.84%) followed by winter (2.68%) and summer (2.01%). Mortality due to Septicemia, Nervous System, Respiratory System and Alimentary System disorders was found more in lambs as compared to adult. Significant difference (at 1% level) was observed within the season, sex and age groups for different causes of mortality.
