Bilateral dissecting aneurysms of the internal carotid arteries

1971
Abstract A case of bilateral dissecting aneurysms of the internal carotid arteries in the neck in a thirty-eight year old woman is presented. The history, physical findings, and clinical course were indistinguishable from the more common causes of cerebrovascular insufficiency. Arteriography suggested dissection on the partially occluded side but was of no help on the totally occluded side. This case illustrates the importance of considering dissecting aneurysm as a possible although uncommon cause of extracranial occlusive disease. The operative result suggests that if complete occlusion has not occurred, surgical reconstruction should be attempted.
