Abstract Reduction of a β-furanyl unsaturated ketone with LiAlH 4 , LiAlD 4 or sodium bis(methoxyethoxy)aluminum hydride (SMEAH) results in a novel reductive-fragmentation in which four elements of stereochemistry are established in a single step.
