Long term follow-up after open reduction and internal fixation for Sanders type II fracture of calcaneus

Objective To evaluate the curative effect of open reduction and internal fixation for Sanders type Ⅱ fracture of calcaneus.Methods Two hundred and eighty-nine patients with 290 Sanders type Ⅱ fractures of calcaneus had been undergone open reduction and internal fixation in Tongji Hospital since May,1997.Patients were followed up above 3 years after operation.Functional results were assessed by Maryland Foot Score.Results Eighty-one cases with 83 fractures were followed up for 38-102 months(average 68.1 months) after treatment.According to the evaluation of Maryland Foot Score,excellent results were noted in 59(71.1%) and good in 23(27.7%).Conclusion Open reduction and internal fixation is an effective and secure method for Sanders type Ⅱ fracture of calcaneus.
