Forces produced by orthodontic elastics as a function of time and distance extended

Four types of elastic used in our clinic were tested for stiffness as a function of time and distance extended. The measurements were taken in vitro in a simulated mouth environment. The stiffness decreased rapidly in the first three hours but from this time to 8 hours, the stiffness did not change greatly.
