AN ANALYSIS OF STUDENTS’ ERRORS IN USING SIMPLE PAST FORM ON WRITING RECOUNT TEXT OF THE EIGHTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMP N 2 TUNTANG IN ACADEMIC YEAR OF 2019/2020 A GRADUATING PAPER

The purpose of this research is to know the types of errors and the causes of errors made by students in writing simple past tense in recount text. The researcher used a qualitative research method. This research was conducted at SMP N 2 TUNTANG. The researcher choose the eighth D class. The data was collected from the students writing tasks. The students were asked to write a recount text that used the formula from simple past tense. The instrument of the research was tests and documentation. The result of this research presented that there are 4 types of error, they are omission, addition, misformation, and misordering. The causes of error there are 2 types: Intralingual and Interlingual. The dominant error is misformation errors which total errors are 40 (68.96%), the second is Addition error which the total errors are 10 (17.24%), the third is omission error which total errors are 6 (10.34%), the last is error misordering which total error are 2 (3.44%).
