Fountain Coded Transmission Strategy with Network Coding for Wireless Butterfly Networks

2013
The wireless butterfly network is a typical model for multi-source multi-destination relaying transmissions, in which the opportunistic network coding (ONC) can be easily employed to enhance the system throughput. Nevertheless, ONC requires feedback form the receivers, which may decrease the system performance and cannot fully exploit the advantage of ONC. So, in this paper, we propose a fountain coded transmission strategy with network coding for wireless butterfly networks, which combines fountain codes and network coding in a single system. Then, we formulate and analyze the throughput performance of the proposed scheme. Finally, numerical and simulation results presented to show that our proposed transmission strategy outperforms traditional ONC in terms of system throughput.
