Diplopia in high myopia

2016
ABSTRACTIntroduction: Myopes often have double vision (diplopia) which could be monocular (uniocular) or binocular in origin. The prevalence and magnitude of myopia is significantly increasing in many parts of the world, often termed as myopia explosion.Areas covered: Different etio-pathogeneis and mechanisms resulting in diplopia in myopes is presented along with an over-view of its evidence based management.Expert commentary: Neuro-anatomical, structural as well as optical problems associated with an enlarged globe may result in diplopia in myopes. With the advent of high resolution surface coil orbital imaging, it has been increasingly possible to evaluate the actual neuro-anatomical abnormalities present in these patients, so as to be able to institute customized management with a high degree of precision and effectivity.
