Battery Charger Based on Bi-directional High Step-Up/Down DC-DC Converter

A bi-directional high step-up/down DC-DC converter for battery charging applications is proposed in this paper. The power converter is operated as a step-up converter in the discharging mode while it is operated as a step-down converter in the charging mode. The continuous conduction and the discontinuous conduction mode operations in the charging and the discharging modes are analyzed in detail. The analysis and the operation of the converter are verified using the simulation results.
