Effects of Dextran 40 on Red Cell Aggregation in Rabbits

1967
The effect of dextran 40 (Rheomacrodex) on intravascular red cell aggregation was studied at high magnification using a rabbit ear-chamber. A dramatic improvement in blood flow together with dispersion of aggregated red cells is demonstrated. The dispersing effect is shown to result from haemodynamic changes rather than from specific properties of dextran 40 against red cell aggregation in the rabbit.
