An Active Clamping Control Method for DC Solid State Circuit Breaker Based on Cascaded SiC JFETs

The DC distribution network has become the trend of the development and applications in power distribution systems. As the key protection equipment of the DC systems, the research of DC circuit breakers has become an international research focus. This paper proposes an active clamping control method for DC solid state circuit breaker based on cascaded SiC JFETs. The gate-source voltage of the SiC JFET is dynamically controlled by the control circuit, so that the drain-source voltage of the SiC JFET is clamped to a given value during a turn-off process. The simulation and experiment results verify the correctness of the proposed method, which effectively improves the SiC JFET series reliability and the DC solid-state circuit breaker voltage level.
