CONCEPTUALIZING SERVICES SECTOR PRODUCTIVITY

The Paper which is theoretical in nature is intended as an analytical framework for a study of services sector productivity issues within selected English-speaking Caribbean countries. Drawing on the literature, it first discusses the concept and definition of the term "services". Secondly it explores theories on the origin and growth of services within an economy. It then examines the evidence supporting one such theory ? that of the lagging services sector productivity. It highlights the unique features of services in relation to productivity, the factors affecting services sector productivity and the manner in which services may enhance productivity in other sectors.
