Brief analysis of Promoting Safety: Alternative Approaches to the Use of Restraints Clinical Practice Guidelines RNAO 2012 edition

2018
At present, physical restraint is generally regarded as a protective measure in clinical practice, but its efficacy and safety are uncertain. Therefore, some medical institutions begin to reduce the use of physical restraints and try to use alternative approaches of restraints. Registered Nurses Association of Ontario (RNAO) in 2012 formulated the best clinical practice guideline of Promoting Safety: Alternative Approaches to the Use of Restraints. This paper introduces the composition of the guidance development team, a model "Promoting Safety: Alternative Approaches to the Use of Restraints", guidelines recommendations, quality evaluation, and so on. At the same time, it describes the clinical application and practical significance of the guideline, in order to guide nurses to focus on evidence-based best practices, pay attention to alternative restraints, and develop the concept of "restraint-free" nursing. Key words: Practice guideline; Restraints; Nursing safety; Alternative approaches
