List 96: Nottingham University Tree-Ring Dating Laboratory Results: General List

The northern part of the central courtyard at Ightham· Mote is lined by a gallery range, running between the Jacobean Room to the east and the staircase block to the west. Behind the gallery at first-floor level is the New Chapel. The date' of the gallery was unknown at the time of sampling. During restoration work timbers from several parts of the north range at Ightham Mote became accessible for analysis. These included timbers of the roof and panels from the ceiling of the New Chapel and timbers beneath the stairway in the north-west comer. In addition a series of frieze panels removed from the north range were also sampled. Analysis commissioned by Peter Leach for the National Trust. Earlier results from Ightham Mote are in VA 25-28, Lists 57, 60, 65, 75.
