Ultrasound-Guided Biopsy of Malignant Liver Lesions

Ultrasonography (US), even associated with other imaging techniques, allows an exhaustive diagnosis of liver lesions only in some cases: however, it is not always possible to distinguish a malignant lesion from a benign one; in a high number of cases diagnosis of histotype is impossible on the basis of imaging examination alone, even when completed by clinical and laboratory criteria. Ultrasound guided biopsy is the method of choice for diagnostic purposes in this field.
