Green synthesis of silver nanoparticles using apple extract and its antimicrobial properties

2019
Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) exhibit strong antibacterial effect against multi drug resistant bacteria. Today, silver nanoparticles have a great application, especially those obtained by green synthesis, the simple method of using the apple extract, which is eco-friendly, fast and without any harmful effects. This study focuses on the green synthesis of silver nanoparticles, which was conducted by apple extract. Characterization of AgNPs was performed by using UV- visible spectrophotometer, and the antimicrobial activity of synthesized AgNPs was explored using the disc diffusion method, effects on particular bacteria - Salmonella spp and Escherichia coli. The average value diameters of inhibition zone for E. coli was 27 mm, and for Salmonella spp was 20 mm. These results were compared with the standardized values for Amoxicillin - Clavulanic Acid antibiotic. After comparing, the results showed that the AgNPs synthesized this way, have a great potential for inhibiting the growth of bacteria Escherichia coli and Salmonella spp.
