Rapid HPLC determination of bisoprolol in human plasma

Since the discovery of the blocker properties of dichloroisoproterenol by Powell and Slater in 1958 [2], fl-adrenergic receptor antagonists have found wide applications in the treatment of hypertension, cardiac arrhythmias, agina pectoris, and other cardiovascular disorders. Recently proposed for the treatment of hypertension, bisoprolol is a selective fl-1 adrenergic antagonist with no membrane stabilizing effect and intrinsec sympathomimetic activity [1]. Previously, we have developed a high-performance liquid chromatographic (HPLC) method allowing the assay of the commonly prescribed fl-blockers, which is convenient for both routine analyses and pharmacokinetic experiments [3]. The present observation develops our earlier technique for bisoprolol.
