Concrete filled FRP–PVC tubular columns used in the construction sector: A review
2020
In recent years, there has been increasing interest in the application of tubular columns composed of fiber reinforced polymer-Polyvinyl chloride (FRP-PVC) in civil engineering. This is the result of their high bond strength, durability, strengthening performance, and satisfactory compressive behavior. Additionally, it has been reported that tubular columns of FRP–PVC are cost-effective and can increase the strain capacities, stiffness, and strength of the reinforced concrete structures. Moreover, Due to the excellent corrosion resistance of PVC, they are good candidates for applications in harsh environment such sea water and acid-based environments, bridge columns, and pile foundation. This paper reviews the improved strength capacity of FRP and the investigated evidence of their strengthening effect in reinforced concrete for construction applications.
