Concrete filled FRP–PVC tubular columns used in the construction sector: A review

2020
In recent years, there has been increasing interest in the application of tubular columns composed of fiber reinforced polymer-Polyvinyl chloride (FRP-PVC) in civil engineering. This is the result of their high bond strength, durability, strengthening performance, and satisfactory compressive behavior. Additionally‎, it has been reported that tubular columns of FRP–PVC ‎are cost-effective and can increase the strain capacities, stiffness, and strength of the reinforced concrete structures. Moreover, Due to the excellent corrosion ‎resistance of PVC, they are good candidates for applications in harsh environment such sea water and acid-based environments, bridge ‎columns, ‏ and pile foundation‌‏. This paper reviews the improved strength capacity of FRP and the investigated evidence of‎ their strengthening effect in reinforced concrete for construction applications.
