Presentation of Case First admission. A fifty-eight-year-old automobile mechanic entered the hospital for splenectomy. Two years previously he was seen in the Medical Clinic because of a sensation of fullness in the left upper quadrant of the abdomen, and enlargement of the spleen was found. The hemoglobin was 12 gm. per 100 ml.; the white-cell count was 57,000, with 29 per cent neutrophils, 28 per cent band forms, 8 per cent myelocytes, 9 per cent late myelocytes, 9 per cent metamyelocytes, 2 per cent eosinophilic myelocytes, 1 per cent eosinophils, 2 per cent monocytes and 12 per cent basophils.
