Simultaneous diffraction of two waves at a reflection volume hologram

1982
Based on the theory of coupled waves the simultaneous diffraction of two waves at a plane dielectric reflection volume hologram is described. By analogy to the transmission volume grating the intensities of the output beams strongly depend on the phase shift between the incident waves and the phase shift of the grating with respect to the interference structure of the read-out waves. This gives the possibility of transferring the incident energy from one wave into the other and can be used for the modulation or deflection of the reconstructed beams. The separate determination of the different kinds of phase shifts by intensity or phase measurements is discussed.
