Reconstitution of a corneal endothelium by intracameral injection of cultured endothelial cells
2014
The only currently available treatment for irreversible corneal endothelial failure is allo-transplantation, which is overshadowed by optical distortion of the posterior surface, postoperative donor corneal endothelial cells attrition and risk of rejection. Assessment of the in vivo functionality of a corneal endothelium reconstituted by the injection of corneal endothelial cells in the anterior chamber of an endothelial deficiency model allows to consider cell-injection as a possible therapy for corneal endotheliopathies.
