Synthesis and spectral characterisation of copper(II), nickel(II), cobalt(II) and chromium(III) complexes of cinnamoyl methane derivates as ligands

2003
Metal complexes of the type ML 2 .nH 2 O where M = Cu(II), Ni(II), Co(II); n = 0, 2 and ML 3 , M = Cr(III), L = di[4-X-3-Y-cinnamoyl] methane; X = OH; Y = OCH 3 or X = OCH 3 , Y = H, have been prepared and studied by elemental and thermogravimetric analyses, the measurements of molar conductance and magnetic moment, IR and electronic spectra. The spectral data indicate that the ligands coordinate through both carbonyl and enolic oxygens. The anhydrous copper complexes are square planar, while all the other complexes have distorted octahedral symmetry. The complex compounds have been studied by emission spectroscopy and have been found to exhibit luminiscent properties.
