Modelling and analysis of baseband unit pool for green C-RANs

The soared mobile traffic intensify the clash between constant addition of base stations and the decent of the average revenue per user. Thus the cloud radio access network (C-RAN) was proposed by separating the baseband units from the corresponding remote radio head. We modelled and analysed the BBU pool in the C-RAN based on the Markov chain. From the numerical results, we find that the energy saving performance is not only depends on the traffic arrival rate, but also on the time duration of the intermediate transition states. In addition, the total number of the available BBUs in the BBU pool is vital for the pool system. Careful design of these parameters would improve the system performances.
