The invention discloses a monitoring system and a monitoring method of equipment positions in a cabinet and is used for solving the problem existing in the prior art that the energy consumption is big when the equipment positions in the cabinet are monitored. The monitoring system comprises a movement sensing unit, a low-frequency transceiving unit, asset locating tags and a networking unit, wherein the movement sensing unit and the low-frequency transceiving unit are arranged on the inner side of a cabinet door, and the asset locating tags are fixed on the surface of the equipment in the cabinet. The movement sensing unit is used for receiving movement signals of the cabinet door and transmitting the movement signals to the low-frequency transceiving unit, the low-frequency transceiving is used for acquiring position information of the asset locating tags in the cabinet after receiving the movement signals and transmitting the position information to the networking unit, the networking unit is used for judging whether the positions of the asset locating tags are authorized application positions according to the position information, and if the positions of the asset locating tags are not authorized application positions, the position information of the asset locating tags is uploaded to a network monitoring device. Compared with the prior art, the monitoring system and the monitoring method of the equipment positions in the cabinet have the advantages that the energy consumption is reduced, and the practicability is improved.
