Non-operative Treatment of Acute Subdural Hematoma in Cirrhotic Patients with Thrombocytopenia
2011
Two patients suffering from liver cirrhosis with thrombocytopenia had sustained acute subdural hematoma following mild traumatic brain injury. Subdural hematoma following mild injury could be life-threatening in these patients with latent bleeding tendency. In general, subdural hematoma should be treated with the surgical intervention. However, we found that conservative treatment with carefully monitoring hemodynamic and neurological parameters appears to be successful in two patients in this report. Our findings indicate that it is possible to treat such patients with the administration of osmotic agents, anticoagulants, and antihypertensive drugs.
