Genetic diversity association of different quantitative traits in Faba bean (Vicia faba L.)

2021
The present investigation entitled “Genetic diversity association of different quantitative traits in Faba bean (Vicia faba L.)” was conducted at Student’s Instructional Farm of Acharya Narendra Deva University of Agriculture & Technology, Narendra Nagar (Kumarganj), Ayodhya in normal soil under irrigated condition during Rabi 2018-19. The non-hierarchical Euclidean cluster analysis grouped 44 genotypes in to five clusters. The existence of high degree of genetic diversity in the germplasm may serve as valuable source of selecting diverse parents for use in hybridization programme. The highest number of genotypes appeared in cluster I which contained 13 genotypes, cluster III, IV, II and V having 10, 8, 7 and 6 genotypes, respectively. The five clusters in divergence analysis contained genotypes of heterogeneous origin, thereby indicating no parallelism between genetic and geographic diversity. Therefore, crosses between the members of clusters separated by high inter-cluster distance are likely to throw desirable sergeants. In this context maximum inter cluster distance was found between cluster V and cluster III followed by cluster V and cluster I. However, maximum intra-cluster distance was observed in cluster V followed by cluster IV. The different clusters showed considerable differences in intra-cluster group means of eleven characters and genotypes having distinctly different mean performance for various characters were separated into different clusters.
