Pedestrian Safety Action Plan in Arizona

This paper describes how the State of Arizona and the Phoenix metropolitan area have been identified as one of the opportunity states and cities for taking initiatives in resolving pedestrian safety issues. The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) has volunteered to be the lead agency along with the City of Phoenix in developing a Statewide Pedestrian Safety Action Plan. Using the resources and funding provided by the Federal Highway Administration, the State of Arizona is in the process of developing the plan that will include safety guidance for the state as well as local agencies. Representatives from several other local jurisdictions in the Phoenix metropolitan area are assisting in this effort, and Phoenix is well on its way in developing its local Pedestrian Safety Action Plan.
